Key Responsibilities

  • Perform due diligence as an independent engineer in areas of expertise
  • Must have familiarity with a solar project site to conduct inspections to confirm and evaluate site conditions, constructability and completion milestones
  • Ability to review and comment on the design and engineering of solar or storage layouts related to applicable codes and standards of the US
  • Perform certain solar modeling and design using industry standard software (PVsyst, SAM, PVcase, CAD, GIS, HOMER)
  • Perform reviews of EPC contracts to confirm suitability and milestone achievements based on technical data (functional testing, capacity testing, electrical tests, reliability)
  • Interpret codes, standards and regulatory requirements for the purpose of providing internal guidance and technical advisory services to clients
  • Support multi discipline areas as a generalist to project manage and create workflows
  • Support and backup Director(s) in areas including and limited to project leadership, presentations, delegation, client calls
  • Perform site visits as needed to assess project viability, progress, constructability, and off-site meetings and industry conferences
  • Forensic analysis of solar operational performance, insights regarding performance improvements and interpretation of underperformance cause attribution
  • Reporting and analytic support for commercial RFP’s, financial pro forma models, technology suitability and other development processes
  • Review and report on monthly performance of operating solar monitoring stations assets
  • Research and development of techniques and tools to improve upon the reporting, software and project deliverables
  • Proposal preparation and execution if accepted by the client, including budget/personnel management and oversight (project execution) on-time and on- or better-than budget

Minimum Requirements

  • Ten years of experience conducting solar engineering, technical due diligence, technical analysis along the project life cycle from development through finance/IE, operations, and repowering
  • Must be a subject matter expert in an area that includes interconnection, transmission, design engineering, structural foundation design, environmental permitting, or manufacturing (inverters/modules/batteries)
  • Great familiarity with the role of the independent engineer and an understanding of deal flow of the US market for tax equity financing
  • Excellent in written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and constructively in all internal and external, work and client interactions to promote excellence and collaboration through the team
  • Ability to work completely virtual
  • Very proficient with Microsoft Office and Google suite
  • Proficiency in Power BI and other open source software and UIs

Open Position: Solar Engineering Consultant

Position Overview

ArcVera Renewables is seeking an experienced solar engineer to reinforce and complement ArcVera Renewables’ solar resource and Independent Engineering (“IE”) advisory services. This individual will play a key role technically supporting multiple projects on many levels of technical staff and scopes in markets around the globe. The individual will perform solar energy resource assessments and must understand the underlying fundamentals of solar PV system design, technologies and commercial fundamentals. The analysis of solar energy projects involves working across a range of responsibilities, including meteorological data evaluation, application of modeling techniques, methodologies, and uncertainty analysis for a range of clientele.

In addition, the individual is expected to understand and speak to aspects of the project life from development through construction and interpret technical aspects of commercial contracts such as interconnection, equipment supply, construction, and O&M agreements. The position requires a level of engagement internally and with clients, rigor, and high attention to detail in technical aspects, high-quality written communication, client handling, top-notch problem solving, project management, decisionmaking under uncertain circumstances, and ability to develop productive and professional interpersonal relationships. It is expected that the individual will be self-motivated, detail oriented and uphold ArcVera Renewables’ opinions with timely client responses.

The role requires competency in technical engineering aspects, construction and interconnection of utility scale solar projects, as well as experience with solar energy simulation modeling, basic solar technology and system design, and an understanding of commercial contracts or studies (environmental, permitting, PPAs, interconnection, O&M, MSAs). It also requires maintaining current knowledge of advancements in solar power technology and current market conditions for commercial agreements.
The position includes interfacing with existing and potential clients (in-person), attending industry conferences, preparing proposals, and collaborating with principals and other colleagues in ArcVera Renewables growing solar energy practice. The person in this role is expected to thrive among colleagues, enjoy engaging with market participants, is comfortable with preparing and presenting at trade
conferences, self-developing, and developing with others, while staying abreast of industry-leading developments.

The individual is expected to conduct themselves professionally in all industry interactions and uphold ArcVera Renewable’s standards and integrity.

● Timely and efficient completion, or oversight of such completion by the solar team, of highquality
renewable energy analysis work, including written communication;
● Carry out pre-construction, IE, and operational energy assessments, including due diligence,
review, validation, of engineering designs and commercial contracts;
● Review engineering designs and understand optimization of solar plants to meet client needs;
● Identify risks and opportunities as it relates to technical designs (civil, geotechnical, electrical)
and commercial agreements;
● Comprehend project deals and identify commercial risks as it relates to technical inputs and
design;
● Evaluate project constraints, risks, and other non-quantitative aspects of project
development;
● Support the solar team with useful developments and evolve methodologies focuses on
mastering subject matter during downtime;
● Contribute to and review report deliverables, energy reports and other analyses for clients;
● Assist in developing company quality standards related to solar energy;
● Understand and ensure company quality standards are met;
● Support business development activities, including meeting with clients to explain technical
details clearly and concisely;
● Manage solar projects to satisfy client objectives; and
● Ability to speak up early with clarity if issues arise that, if left unaddressed, could create
further problems.

Qualifications

Required:

● Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or construction management from an
accredited university;
● Five plus years’ experience in the solar sector and ability to interpret regulations codes and
standards;
● Five plus years’ experience with related industry knowledge in the power sector pertaining to the
development, construction or operations of plants with knowledge of independent engineering
practice;
● Knowledge of technical specifications that affect performance for solar modules, inverters,
trackers and other project components, and the ability read and read and evaluate the legitimacy
of technical specifications, claims, warranties, and technical requirements of commercial
contracts;
● Ability to manage projects and related SMEs of project team to support deadlines and client
objectives;
● Strong ability to communicate clear and concisely on a variety of technical subjects;
● Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, programming software and data platforms;
● Familiarity with solar resource models;
● Ability to travel as needed to solar sites and conferences, or company events (up
to 20 percent travel);
● Meticulous with the ability to work under short deadlines in a fast-paced
environment;
● Demonstrated skills managing both projects and personnel;
● Excellent report organization, report and proposal preparation, writing and presentation skills
and being able to communicate opinions and conclusions clearly and concisely.

Preferred

● Master’s degree (in engineering or business administration) with a technical undergraduate
degree from an accredited university;
● Seven plus years’ experience in the solar and renewable energy sector, including consulting
experience and working as or with independent engineers;
● Comprehensive understanding of technical project finance and
● Working knowledge of current PV technology, engineering and commercial contracts, with a
specific focus in either civil engineering, electrical engineering, or environmental engineering;
● Proven track record with subject matter expertise. Deep understanding of engineering
principles related applicable codes and industry standards; and
● Analysis of periodic events, identification and allocation of performance issues and
supporting clients in buy and sell side opportunities.

The Due Diligence Project Manager is responsible for wind-energy engineering activities within ArcVera’s global business portfolio. The Project Manager reports to the Global Director of Wind Engineering and supervises and manages additional engineering personnel and/or subcontractors.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage Due Diligence Projects
  • Manage up to 5 staff as well as up to 5 sub-contractors
  • Write proposals, including working with admin staff to establish NDA, MSA, and other required materials as part of proposal efforts
